School is for everyone, but is a traditional classroom for everyone? Many parents may not be aware of the different school systems offered. Each students is unique in their own special way and each learn differently. Every student is smart, but not all in the same areas. Lets take Philip for example he disliked school and didn't care about his education. Once a teacher saw his need they recommend Philip to a magnet school where he was able to express his passion of learning. He was able to control his education by using technology and working on computers all the time. He was able to create, with his team members, a group project video. He took leadership of the group and know he is learning and is enjoying what he can do. He is getting the best from his education and is striving for excellence. He was not that he was a bad student and dumb, it took a teacher to see him and find out what would be the best decision for him and a traditional classroom was not for him. His teacher saw that he needed a different approach to his education in where the school dedicated his passion into learning.
My overall view on this story was wow. First of all I didn't know that there were different types of schools until like three weeks ago. The only schools that I knew where regular traditional classrooms, charter schools, and home school but that was about it. Learning new different types of schools is great. Every student is not the same and we need to be able to provided all their needs with different types of school for them. I am glad that one teacher was able to see the need for Philip to have the right education for him in order for him to strive.
Philip works on each standard that NETS has for him. All the standards are being addressed by the school and Philip is getting the best out of his education. He is thinking creativity of what he already knows and what is he is learning, he is communicating with his group members and working together, he is able to do research on projects, his thinks critically on how to take an approach on the project, follows the digital citizenship, and understands technology concepts. Philip is a student the performs with excellence in technology and is learning every step of the way.

great response Blanca. magnet schools are great way for some kids to learn. I taught at a magnet school in Texas. students who ay be having problems in a traditional classroom setting may great benefit from a magnet education. although students learn from the traditional core classes, they receive the added benefit from learning in an environment that they are truly interested in. learning in this capacity tends to help the student learn in the core classrooms also. I was interested to know that you had never heard of magnet schools, learn something new everyday, right?
ReplyDeleteI am in a similar boat, I didn't know that there were schools other than charter, public, and home schools. I do agree though that every student needs to be treated as an individual and from what I have seen that seems to be the direction that all schools are going in. It is a awesome that more schools are being made that treat students as individuals and help them to realize their full potentials.
